The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has reacted to a recent comment made by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over his supposed successor.
In his address to the chiefs in Wa last week, the president hinted that his predecessor, who is John Dramani Mahama, cannot be his successor.
“If God permits, on my next visit, I will come with the man who is going to be my successor. Wa Naa, you know that the man I removed from the seat, I cannot have him as my successor, and as a traditional ruler, you understand what I am saying,’’ the president was noted to have said.
In a video sighted by 1Family Radio, Mahama castigated Akufo-Addo for insinuating that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will be the next president of Ghana.
According to Mahama, it is only God who appoints rulers; therefore, Akufo-Addo does not have any authority to choose who becomes his successor.
“I want to urge the president that the best legacy he can leave this country is to superintend over a peaceful, transparent, and credible election,’’ he said.
“I wish to remind him that it is only God who makes rulers, and he can never be the one to choose his successor; it is God who will choose his successor,’’ he added.
