Heavy D, a music and events executive, is extremely disappointed at Kauai Eugene for continuously incorporating samples of other people’s songs into his own compositions.
He spoke on Accra 100.5 FM’s Entertainment Capital with Prince Benjamin (PB), which was sighted by 1Family Radio.
Heavy D stated, “I personally don’t like it,” adding, “I don’t hate whims about a person.” He said, “As an artist, I think he’s a fantastic singer and performer. It’s just the sampling that puts me off.” It’s a little excessive.
Eugene, a singer-songwriter and record producer, needs to “go back to the drawing board and create more original music,” according to Heavy D, considering his “level” of artistry and reputation in the music business.
He noted that Kuami Eugene interpolates traditional Christian worship songs into his current popular song, Canopy, with PB. “He’s getting hits, sure,” Heavy D said, but questioned how long he could keep it up.
In terms of longevity, Do you aspire to become a timeless artist? He pushed, “Let me hear you write and perform something.” “Come on, I want to see it.” PB resisted, arguing that Monica by Kuami Eugene was an original work.
