Ibrahim Babangida, the 1993 FIFA U-17 World Champion, passed away in a tragic accident that also claimed the lives of his brother Tijani Babangida, their son, and their wife.
Former Nigerian football player Emmanuel Babayaro claims that the tragedy happened on the Kaduna-Zaria Road on Thursday, May 9, 2024.
Babayaro verified that Tijani, his wife, son, and maid—all of whom are critically ill and have been admitted to the hospital—were on board.
It is with sadness that Ibrahim, a Muslim, is being buried in Kaduna today, Friday, May 10, 2024.
Before securing a transfer to Dutch team Volendam in 1997, the late Ibrahim, 47, played a significant portion of his football career in Nigeria for Bank of the North, Stationery Stores, and Katsina United.
His World Cup victory in 1993 and his time with the U-17 team were the only high points of his international career. Despite his achievements in the youth league, he was unable to make the Super Eagles roster.
