The criticism that Ghanaian rapper Medikal faced for asking his ex-girlfriend Sister Derby to perform with him at his most recent 02 event—a performance alongside actress Fella Makafui—has been addressed.
In an interview with MzGee during the May 4, 2024, episode of United Showbiz, which was sighed by 1Family Radio, Medikal revealed that he intended to perform a popular song they had co-written live for the audience.
He underlined that the goal of the performance was to improve the concert experience for attendees, especially for those who had only heard the song via his music videos on Snapchat and had never seen it performed live.
“I wanted people to feel a live performance of what they watch on my Snapchat and in my music videos. She is someone I have a song with—a song people know about,” Medikal said.
He went on to explain, saying, “So that’s what it is—nothing new. I had no intention of proving anything. All I wanted was to enjoy myself and give my fans an amazing experience.
Despite his defense, several critics have called his acts insulting to his wife and said that, in the circumstances, the public displays with Sister Derby were improper.
In the meantime, Medikal addressed rumors that his marriage had ended in an interview with United Showbiz, saying that it’s better to concentrate on the event’s success than to get involved in such personal affairs. He made the argument that there have been failed marriages throughout history.
