Famous Ghanaian actress Wendy Shay has criticized Ghanaians for relentlessly pushing musicians to reach the same benchmarks as their Nigerian colleagues.
Her remarks follow a slew of other Ghanaian industry figures who have warned Ghanaians on social media to avoid juxtapositions and push-downs and instead to encourage their artists as they rise to greater heights around the world.
Wendy Shay bemoaned the fact that it has become customary for Ghanaian musicians to perform to a packed 02 Arena or win a Grammy before receiving national recognition in a Twitter (now X) post that was seen by 1Family Radio.
She admonished Ghanaians in her article to face the fact that an artist doesn’t need to win a Grammy or fill the 02 Arena before he achieves greatness.
She asserts that prominent artists like 2Pac and Bob Marley have achieved great success while never winning a Grammy.
“Why has filling the 02 Arena and winning Grammys become the standard to measure the success of an artist? She quizzed.
“Bob Marley and 2Pac are successful musicians but never won a Grammy.’’
The “Uber Driver’’ crooner, who appeared to be frustrated by this attitude of Ghanaians, wrote, “Let Ghanaian musicians breathe! Ghana, wake up.’’
