Popular Ghanaian musician Fameye has recently vented his dismay with the pervasive absence of finance and solid assistance in the music industry.
Fameye pointed out the lack of enthusiasm that Ghanaians in the diaspora show for the programs of their fellow compatriots in a direct interview with Berla Mundi on the Day Show, which was monitored by 1Family Radio.
He claims that Ghanaians living abroad do not attend their events with the same passion and excitement that Nigerian performers’ shows inspire. As a result, the majority of Ghanaian musicians’ gigs abroad are canceled.
“Since I blew up in 2019, I played shows in the UK and America. I have gone with other people, and it didn’t pick for us. Even if it would work for us, the Ghanaians have to be majority there, and even that, they are shy to tag along.’’
“Why do you think Ghanaians keep canceling their shows? They don’t come. When Wizkid has a show, and it’s in four months, it will be sold out. They won’t do this for any Ghanaian artist.’’
He continued, “I’ve witnessed it in New York, and I don’t want to mention names. Just last year, they had a concert in a small place. Not even ten people showed up. If I mentioned names, you would be surprised.’’
“I had my show in the UK about a week ago. I was expecting a lot of people to come, but it was only a few that came.’’
“Our people are not supporting us. It feels intentional because it wasn’t like that before. There was support then; that was why Nigerians were featuring Ghanaian artists at that time,’’ he said.
“Burna Boy was featuring Shatta, and Flavor was featuring Sarkodie because they knew the support was there, but right now, we are the ones chasing them to feature them,’’ he added.
