Seasoned Ghanaian female vocalist Jane Afia Awindor, known by her stage name Efya Nokturnal, has disclosed that she has been to Bible school before.
According to her, being a secular artist doesn’t deter her from doing gospel songs, and this is one thing Ghanaians need to understand. She also noted that she is also a child of God, just like any other person.
Efya called on Ghanaians to renew their minds with regards to their perceptions of secular artists. She empathetically noted that being a secular artist doesn’t make you the devil or a non-believer.
She made these revelations when she appeared as a guest on ‘The Day Show,” hosted by Berla Mundi on TV3.
During the interview, which was monitored by 1Family Radio, Efya recounted how she was lambasted by Ghanaians alongside a gospel musician she collaborated with.
“I did a song with a gospel artist, and Ghanaians came after me and her, asking why she would collaborate with a secular artist like me,’’ she stated.
“This is what I’m talking about. What’s that about? Can’t I do gospel music? Are we for real? I am also a child of God. What are you saying?’’
“I have the power in me. I went to Bible school. You can’t know the Bible more than me,’’ the musician noted.
