The human rights advocate and private attorney Anthony Akoto Apaw, also known as “Che Che,” has sadly kicked the bucket.
He passed away at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) on Friday, October 20, 2023, according to news that we at 1Family Radio are receiving.
The respected private attorney, Mr. Akoto Ampaw, was also an anti-corruption and human rights activist.
During his time as a student at the University of Ghana, Akoto Ampaw acquired the moniker “Che Che.”
In 2013, he was a member of the New Patriotic Party’s legal team that sued President John Dramani Mahama’s election.
Akoto Ampaw was also a member of President Akufo-Addo’s legal team in 2021, when the former president John Mahama contested the election results in the Supreme Court following President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s reelection for a second term.
Attorney Ampaw left a flawless legacy in the legal community, particularly by promoting initiatives for fair justice and human rights.
Akoto Ampaw earned a B.L. in 1993 from the Ghana School of Law after graduating with a 1973 LL.B. from the University of Ghana Law Faculty.
Among his areas of expertise were media law, labor law, investment law, commercial law, company law, industrial law, litigation, and constitutional and human rights law.
In opposition to the anti-LGBTQ+ Bill in Parliament, human rights campaigner Akoto Ampaw recently teamed up with other people and civil society organizations.
