In order to select its flagbearer for the upcoming general elections in Ghana in 2024, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is hosting an important election. This election possesses significance because it seeks to alter the nation’s political system’s customary eight-year election cycle.
The race for flagbearer has four competitors. Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is regarded as the front-runner among them, but Kennedy Agyapong, the Assin Central Member of Parliament, is anticipated to be a fierce rival, especially in light of his unexpected second-place position at the party’s Super Delegates Conference in August.
The others are Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie, a former minister of agriculture and food, and Francius Addai-Nimoh, a former member of parliament.
With 629 votes, or 68.15 percent of the total votes polled, Bawumia won the Super Delegates Conference handily. Alan Kyerematen, a former minister of trade and industry, finished third, behind Kennedy Agyaponh in second place.
An estimated 203,439 delegates are expected to participate in the election to choose the NPP’s flagbearer. Four hundred and thirty-six of them will vote at the party’s headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra.
