President Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed Ghana’s unwavering support for Israel and Ukraine during these trying times for their national existence.
He claimed that the consequences of Hamas’ violent invasion of Israel, with all of its implications for Middle East peace, have made the problems facing global development much more severe.
“Ladies and gentlemen, there should be no disagreement about the intensity and scale of the challenges that confront our world and the urgent need to address them,” he stated.
He emphasized the significance of countries developing freedom, democracy, and security in a speech that 1Family Radio was able to obtain at the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) headquarters in Washington, D.C.
Ghana is a vital member of the West African regional bloc, ECOWAS, and one of the most established democratic countries on the continent.
The United States and its allies are looking for the best ways to assist the nation and other established democracies in the region in promoting and maintaining democracy as a model of governance, as sub-Saharan Africa is dealing with a wave of extra-constitutional movements and increasing political instability.
The USIP’s conversation with President Nana Akufo-Addo will also look at how important it is for the nation to lead the region in advancing sustainable development, peace, and stability.
Among other things, the discussion will focus on Russia’s conflict with Ukraine, Ghana’s role as a leader in promoting peace in West Africa, and regional security in the Pacific Islands.
During his speech, President Nana Akufo-Addo noted that “we are confronted with perilous situations” and that the world was in chaos.
“Terrorism and violent extremism, climate change, food insecurity, political instability in parts of Africa, post-election violence, health pandemics, energy crises, rising commodity prices, geo-political tensions, the conflicts in the Middle East, and the needless war in Ukraine, amongst others, have weakened the foundational pillars of multilateralism,” the president noted.
He maintained that we were living in the most demanding and complex of times.
“The interlocking challenges and the convergence of crises we face post-existential threats that require our immediate solidarity and collective actions,” he added.
