The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been warned by lawyer Maurice Ampaw that failing to stand up for embattled former sanitation minister Cecilia Abena Dapaah will have-term repercussions.
On August 21, 2023, Maurice Ampaw discussed how the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has recently supported their troubled members on his Mnra Ne Abrabo Mu Nsem show on Wontumi TV, which was sighted by 1Family Radio.
He cited the case of James Gyakye Quayson, a member of parliament for the Assin North Constituency who was expelled from parliament and is currently being tried on criminal charges.
He claimed that the NPP must deal with Ms. Dapaah, who is under investigation for corruption and crimes related to adoption after sizable sums of cash were allegedly stolen from her home, in the same way that the NDC supported him in regaining his seat.
He stressed that Cecilia Dapaa’s alleged actions did not amount to a violation of any laws and that she is not legally regarded as a criminal.
Cecilia Dapaah has never broken the law; in fact, she is not a criminal, a thief, or a criminal in the eyes of any law, he said. If you don’t come and defend the poor woman who is currently being attacked, the consequences will come, and you will live to regret it.
Cecilia Dapaah resigned her ministerial position and was arrested and released on bail by the special prosecutor after a search was conducted at her residence.
The special prosecutor, Kissi Agyabeng, and his team further initiated corruption and corruption-related investigations against Madam Cecilia Dapaah following the alleged theft case.
