All non-lifeline home customers will see a surge in their electricity, water, and natural gas tariffs, according to the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC).

PURC states that effective Friday, September 1, 2023, there will be a 4.22% and 1.18% increment in electricity and water tariffs, respectively.

However, this upward adjustment will not affect commercial clients or non-residential enterprises such as barbershops, chop bars, tailoring and dress-making shops, cold stores, and other small- to medium-sized businesses.

According to a press release obtained by 1Family Radio, the commission’s main goal in implementing the tariff adjustment is to maintain the actual price of providing utility services.

“The commission, after extensive deliberations and analysis, has approved a no increment or change of 0% in end-user electricity tariffs for lifeline customers, industrial customers, and non-residential customers effective September 1, 2023,’’ parts of the statement read.

“The commission, however, approved a 4.22% increase across the board in the average and end-user electricity tariffs for non-lifeline customers.’’

“For the average end-user tariff for water, lifeline customers will experience no increase or change (0)% in tariff. The commission, however, approved a 1.18% increase in tariffs for all other water customer groups,’’ it stated.
