The National Food Buffer Company, NAFCo, claims that payments in arrears to food suppliers will be made shortly.
The company issued one hundred million Ghana cedis last month to pay off 50% of the outstanding arrears, with the promise that the remaining arrears would be paid this month.
Hanan Abdul-Wahab, the NAFCo’s chief executive officer, revealed that the office had paid over 2.7 billion Ghana cedis to suppliers between September 2017 and 2020 when presenting to the media in Accra, which was sighted on 1Family radio.
This, he claimed, is a sign that the government is prepared to continue the program and make it more sustainable than it was previously.
The CEO emphasized NAFCo’s accomplishments since its founding and stated that post-harvest losses are being addressed, despite the warehouse being insufficiently large.
So far, 60 of such storage facilities, including packhouses, have been completed.
Additionally, various stages of the construction and renovation of new warehouses have been completed. A lot is being done, he continued, to assure food security.
