Ken Ofori-Atta, the Minister of Finance, has explained why he didn’t step down when some members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) demanded his resignation.
The Minority caucus in Parliament filed a motion of censure in 2022 calling for Ken Ofori-Atta’s resignation as Finance Minister due to issues like blatant incompetence, poor economic management, and conflicts of interest.
The minister maintained that it was perfectly legitimate for the minority caucus and even a few New Patriotic Party (NPP) members to demand his resignation.
He further stated that Ghanaians have the right to demand his ouster due to the country’s volatile economic conditions in 2022.
However, Ken Ofori-Atta observed in an interview on GTV’s Talking Point Show, which was monitored by 1Family Radio, that this event had left him shattered and devastated.
“In the period of censure, in which Parliament then vote against it, but more importantly, you were in a situation where you were battered and broken. But you do not leave a ship at that time.’’
“And given the urgency of ensuring the IMF program goes through so that we can build the confidence to make a decision, it was a duty to serve, and there was no running away from it,’’ he said.
