Nigerian-born Olalekan Jacob Ponle, better known as Woodberry, has been sentenced to eight years and three months imprisonment.
The news reaching us at 1Family Radio is that Woodberry will face deportation to Nigeria immediately after his incarceration.
Following the dismissal of seven other counts as part of a plea bargain in April, Woodberry was found guilty on one count of fraud.
The court was presided over by Judge Robert Gettleman of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in Chicago on Tuesday, July 11, 2023.
“The defendant is hereby committed to the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons to be imprisoned for a total term of 100 months as to counts,’’ the judge noted.
“Mr. Ponle will also be surrendered to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody for deportation immediately following his incarceration,’’ he added.
