Ghanaian musician and CEO of the Golden Movie Awards, Wilhemina Andani Micheals, professionally known as Mimi Andani, has opened up on why she stopped grooming artists.
She claimed that she had to collapse her record label and stop grooming artists because her former signee, Naana Blu, was ungrateful.
Appearing as a guest on ShowTime on Onua TV, monitored by 1Family Radio, Mimi stated that because of Naana Blu’s actions, she had to stop grooming five other artists who were on her record label.
“I hope you are aware that I set up a record label called ‘The Darling’s Record Label. I had six artists I was grooming over the course of one to two years.’’
“My concept was different. I wanted to groom them for live bands, teach them how to speak on set, and dress them before bringing them out for two years,’’ she stated.
“One of them was Naana Blu, if you heard the riff between us. Despite being elsewhere, she is still one of my artists. It’s Naana Blu’s fault that I stopped. I quit grooming the other five because she wasn’t grateful for my efforts. She breached the contract,’’ Mimi said.
“She went somewhere else without ending my contract, and I have three videos unreleased, and I have songs that are almost an EP.’’
Mimi explained that Naana Blu is just a young lady, and she would be damaged if she brought her to court, which is why she didn’t pursue any legal action against her.
‘’She’s a child; therefore, I decided against filing a lawsuit. I did her a favor by agreeing to hear her story; I was moved and wanted to start something with her as a result. Being a young lady, I didn’t want to take advantage of her.’’
Mimi is of the view that it is a huge favor for a producer to sign an artist, contrary to a statement by Mr. Drew.
”I’m making this point to refute Mr. Drew’s earlier claim that a producer signing you is not a favor by saying, I spent over 200k Cedis grooming and producing videos, and Naana left them in the middle of the new place she is. I don’t agree with him since it even requires the favor of God for someone to choose you over all the others,’’ she concluded.
