The police in Assin North have been reported to have detained some New Patriotic Party (NPP) members in the party’s strongholds, according to some bigwigs of the party.
In a widely circulated video sighted by 1Family Radio, several high-ranking NPP officials can be heard clashing with a number of policemen at the polling station over the deliberate detention of three party members and an NPP polling agent.
Among these prominent figures are the NPP’s general secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua, deputy Majority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, and private attorney Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko.
In order to keep law and order during the by-elections, a police officer could be heard telling these high-ranking individuals to calm down.
“We are working extremely hard to maintain law and order during this operation,’’ the officer remarked.
Justin said that whatever was taking place was planned in order to rig the election because this explanation didn’t really sit right with him.
“But the law and order should be fair; it is going against our people. Our agent has been arrested, and three of our supporters have also been taken into custody,’’ he noted.
“The unfortunate part is that the NPP’s stronghold is where all of this turmoil is occurring. Why are there problems in all of our strongholds? Is this intentional?’’ he questioned.
