Hilda Effiong Bassey, a Nigerian chef better known as Hilda Baci, has been confirmed and awarded as the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.
This news was announced in a statement released by Guinness World Records on Tuesday, June 13, 2023.
“Following a thorough review of all evidence, Guinness World Records (GWR) can now confirm that Hilda Effiong Baci, better known as Hilda Baci, has officially broken the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual), with a time of 93 hours and 11 minutes,’’ the statement sighted by 1Family Radio indicated.
The previous record holder was Lata Tondon, an Indian, with a time of 87 hours and 45 minutes in 2019.
Hilda Baci started cooking on Thursday, May 11, 2023, through Monday, May 15, 2023. She cooked over 100 pots of food each day, and everything was consumed in accordance with the rules of the GWR.
“One of the most important rules of our food-related record attempts is that all items must be consumed after cooking.’’
“Hilda had invited any and all members of the Nigerian public to come and eat her freshly made meals. All leftover food was donated to the Festus Fajemilo Foundation,’’ GWR noted.
Baci’s initial target was to set the record of 100 hours; however, almost seven hours were deducted from her final total because she mistakenly took extra minutes for one of her rest breaks early on in the attempt.
According to Hilda, she was inspired by the desire to put Nigerian cuisine on the map and to inspire African young women to chase their dreams.
