Member of Parliament for the Tamale South Constituency, Haruna Iddrisu has stated that the reportage of the alleged toilet-turned dormitory at the Ghana Senior High School (Ghanasco) is not entirely true.
He made this statement after he toured the school in Tamale to ascertain the reportage that some students of the school are being housed in the toilet. According to him, there is no official record that some of the students sleep in the toilet.
On Friday, April 14, 2023, a video went viral in which some student of Ghanasco were captured using inoperative toilet facilities as dormitory.
Speaking to the press after his tour which was monitored by 1Family Radio, the politicians noted that much of the reportage circulating on social media is not entirely factual, precise and it also lacks the historical perspective of the facility.
He explained that the facility was built somewhere in 1970 as toilet and bath but since it is no longer in use, some student seeking solitude for learning purposes decided to use the facility.
According to him, the negative reportage about the school has the tendency of affecting the emotions of the students. He therefore called on the general public to exercise patience while GES conducts its investigation.
“Let us all wait for the investigation that is being conducted by the GES, but as a parent, I think this can affect the emotional, psychological and educational development of the students. We owe it to them to socialize with them well,’’ he said.
He therefore called on the media to be more cautious in their reportage over the situation.
