Asamoah Gyan, the former captain of the Black Stars of Ghana has asserted the rational behind his decision to play for the Black Stars at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
He announced his intentions to play at the world cup in an interview on BBC few months to the competition.
Speaking in an interview on the KSM show monitored by 1Family Radio, he stated that he decided to play at the 2022 Qatar World Cup because of the motivation by some Ghanaians and fans of the Black Stars.
According to him, a lot of Ghanaians persuaded him to help the country by playing for the Black Stars at the just ended World Cup. Some fans too encouraged him to join the team because they have faith in his abilities and they knew he could do it.
He finally gave in to their persuasions and availed himself for selection for the senior national team at the world Cup. He wanted to play for the national team just to make the fans excited. Unfortunately, he was not selected.
Asamoah Gyan also mentioned that some Ghanaians misunderstood his intentions for wanting to join the Black stars and lambasted him for no reason. They felt he was claiming ownership of the team and abused him verbally for it.
