Member of Parliament for Dome-kwabenya on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sarah Adwoa Safo, has finally spoken out about her protracted absence from parliament.
Adwoa Safo’s prolonged absence from parliament became a hot topic in 2022, igniting discussion across the country.
This problem emerged after she left the nation on November 26, 2021, following the approval of the 2022 budget.
She was dismissed from her role as Minister of Social Protection and Gender Equality, and her parliamentary seat was almost declared vacant.
She has apologized sincerely to her party’s members and has shared details of the difficulties she and her family encountered, particularly during the period in question.
In a Twitter (now X) video shared by Metro TV and sighted by 1Family Radio, the former Gender Minister admitted that it wasn’t her intent to skip parliament, and she professed profound regret for any hassle that may have created.
She made explicit requests for pardon from influential members of her party, such as the president, the chief of staff, the majority leader, and the whole majority caucus.
“I would like to take this opportunity to express my regrets to the party’s leaders and members. First is President Akufo-Addo, followed by the Vice President, the Chief of Staff, the Majority Leader, and then the full Majority Caucus,’’ she said.
“I want to apologize since there was a lot going on in my family’s life as well as mine, and it was not my intention. I’m pleading with you all through this platform in the name of God.”
She continued, “I beg for your forgiveness, dear sympathizers and supporters who love the party and me, as well as my regional executives, my constituency executives, and the NPP headquarters, for everything that has happened. ‘’
