Nana Akwasi Bosompra I, the paramount chief of the Goaso Traditional Area in the Ahafo Region, has advised President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo against sending Ghanaian soldiers to Niger as part of the ECOWAS stand-by force to depose the country’s military government.
According to the chief, Ghana is already facing numerous economic issues, and sending troops to Niger could only worsen the situation.
Speaking at an event commemorating the 15th anniversary of his enstoolment, which was monitored by 1Family radio, the chief stated that Ghana relies on Niger, particularly for agricultural products like onions, and that a war there would be disastrous.
I’m appealing to Nana Addo, my own father. He should avoid engaging in the Niger situation. I ask him not to get involved in these situations.
If Nigerians are sending troops to Niger, they will first send them to Ghana; all countries supporting this military intervention will send their troops to Ghana before sending them to Niger.
”As you can see, the price of onions has soared even before the ECOWAS troops get there, and it will be far worse if this occurs. We have water bodies, but we can’t grow onions,” he explained in twi.
Nana Bosompra I, therefore , asked President Akuffo Addo and other ECOWAS leaders to engage in conversation with the Niger military junta in order to find a solution to the country’s political instability.
In Ghana, some people drink just water before going to bed, but they wake up the next morning. ”Please don’t start a war with us,” he continued.
