Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe has reacted to rumors that he will not extend his contract with the club.
The French player’s contract expires at the conclusion of the 2024 season, and he told PSG in writing yesterday that he will not be renewing it. His choice sparked rumors that Mbappe might transfer to Real Madrid, a possibility he had previously toyed with.
The club is reportedly inclined to sell him if he doesn’t sign a long-term contract since they are desperate to keep him from leaving on a free transfer next year.
However, according to Mbappe, his decision not to extend his contract with the club was communicated to the board in 2022.
“I have never discussed any contract renewal with PSG. The board has been informed since July 15th, 2022, of my decision not to extend beyond 2024. The letter sent was only meant to confirm what I already told them,’’ the player stated in a statement sighted by 1Family Radio.
He also took to Twitter to refute the claims that he wants to force a move to Real Madrid next season.
“Lies, at the same time, the bigger it is, the more it passes. I have already said that I will continue next season at PSG, where I am very happy,’’ he wrote.
