The winner of the 2023 TV3 Mentor, Ghanaian musician Byno Ayoni, has opened up about some of his depressing childhood memories. He talked about his painful experience of losing his mother three months after she passed away and being abdomoned by his father at birth because of his albinism during his appearances on the Daybreak Hitz show on May 8, 2024, which was sighted by 1Family Radio.
“I was raised without knowing my father.” My grandmother informed me that a man commented, “We don’t have this thing in my family,” when he saw me in the hospital shortly after I was born. He fled as a result. “My mother passed away at the age of three months due to pain and disappointment,” the man stated.
As he was raised by his grandmother, he experienced discrimination from society and major health problems. My grandmother then assumed accountability. I was a sickly youngster at the time. My grandma and the people who watched me grow up said I was so sick that you could see the food going down my stomach when I was eating. That’s how ill I was, he continued.
Byno also shared that, in spite of his struggles, at the age of five, his headmaster took him to see the brass band, which ignited a passion for music that lasted a lifetime. “In Aflao, I went to Holy Star Academy. That is my Aflao primary basic school. Because I was protected by the headmaster and anyone who did anything bad to me would face harsh consequences, I didn’t have many difficulties with acceptance there.
