Three new Supreme Court justices have been nominated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo; their appointment is awaiting Parliamentary approval.
The individuals considered are judges of the Court of Appeal, Henry Anthony Kwofie, Yaw Asare Darko, and Adjei Frimpong.
Mr. Osei Bonsu claims that their nomination came about as a result of Justices Kwasi Anin Yeboah, Nene Amegatcher, and Jones Doste’s retirement earlier this year.
Joseph Osei-Owusu, the first deputy speaker of parliament, forwarded the nominations to the House Appointments Committee for review and report.
President Akufo-Addo made this nomination known in a letter to Ghana’s Parliament House.
“I consulted with the Council of State by submitting the names and CVs of the nominees for appointment to the court, parts of the letter sighted by 1Family Radio read.
“The Council of State has, by a letter dated August 11, 2023, notified me of the successful completion of the consultation process.’’
“Therefore, in accordance with Article 144(2) of the Constitution, seeking the approval of Parliament for the appointment of the nominees as justices of the Supreme Court,’’ the statement added.
