The campaign team of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has refuted the assertions made by Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, that he received an offer of US$800 million in exchange for his resignation from the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primary.
In a statement sighted by 1Family Radio, Dr. Gideon Boako, the campaign spokesperson for Dr. Bawumia, denied any knowledge of Ken Agyapong’s claim that he had been offered money to withdraw from the race.
According to him, Dr. Bawumia has never given anyone instructions to meet with Kennedy Agyapong or his aides in order to negotiate anything related to this initiative, and the Vice President has not had a private meeting with Kennedy Agyapong since he entered the race.
“The Vice President and his team consider this $800 million claim as absolutely ridiculous, and it shows gross disregard for the intelligence of Ghanaians,” parts of the statement read.
“Dr. Bawumia is, and has always been confident that by the Grace of God, he will defeat Hon. Kennedy Agyapong quite well on November 4th and has never entertained any wish for him to step down from the contest.”
The statement also stated that Kennedy Agyapong’s most recent accusations is a repetition of one he made approximately a month prior, in which he claimed—without providing evidence—that he was offered money to resign and serve as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate.
“We publicly refuted this baseless claim on September 30, 2023.”
Dr. Boako claims that the Vice President is a man of great dignity who is steadfast in his commitment to using his intelligence to serve others.
