The fact that even Shatta Wale is embracing the incredible genre of Afrobeats must be a testimonial to its potency.
The self-proclaimed dancehall king of Ghana has used the Jamaican sound to launch a very prosperous career. He has a ton of releases to his credit, a plethora of accolades, and hordes of devoted admirers. He claims he can only drive around Accra, the country’s capital, at night because his followers are so passionate. As a matter of fact, he travels with a group of security guards in Ghana.
Being an outspoken person, Shatta Wale has a history of making derogatory remarks about Nigerians and their music.
Nevertheless, he has collaborated with Nigerian musicians Bankuli and Tekno to create his debut Afrobeats record. The title is Konekt, and it will be released soon; however, the exact date of release is still pending. However, ‘Incoming’, the album’s lead song, has just been made public.
Speaking in an interview with the BBC, monitored by 1Family Radio, Shatta Wale said he was inspired to pursue afrobeats because the genre is currently flourishing.
“I don’t want to be hard on this journey that I want to pursue. I want to be loving,” the “BulletProof” hitmaker noted.
“.. I want people to really see my fun side, my hilarious moments, and my happiness. I just want people to know that I am happy now, and I want to share that with the world.’’
“Afrobeats is doing well right now; shout out to BurnaBoy, Wizkid, Davido, and Tiwa Savage,” Shatta Wale said.
“It’s like I’ve graduated from dancehall. I just want to feed the fans with what is currently happening so they can all enjoy good music,’’ he added.
It’s unclear if the ardent Shatta supporters will accept the shift or feel misled. That being said, “Incoming” is a great song, so Shatta Wale will undoubtedly get more fans soon.
