Prempeh College, one of the schools that took part in the prestigious National Science and Math Quiz (NSMQ), has filed a request for an injunction against the event at the High Court in Accra, which might potentially hinder the grand finale of the quiz.
During the semifinal round, a Prempeh College representative gave an answer that sparked controversy, which led to the legal action. The quiz master disagreed, despite the school’s insistence that his answer was accurate.
Disappointed, Primetime Limited, the NSMQ’s organizers, received a petition from Prempeh College. The corporation decided not to give Prempeh College any points for the contested question since they considered that the NSMQ consultant and the quiz mistress had provided them with enough justification; therefore, they denied the petition.
Prempeh College’s NSMQ coordinator, PB Damoah, released a statement after the petition was denied, stating that the college will look into all possible ways to pursue justice.
Now that the NSMQ grand finale is set for October 30, 2023, the discontented school has filed a lawsuit to try to prevent it from happening.
According to Prempeh College, if the quiz mistress had not rejected the answer that she felt was correct, it would still have been in the competition.
