At the Bank of America Stadium on Sunday morning, Ghana lost 2-0 to Mexico after struggling to get even one shot on goal in a difficult international friendly.
With this defeat, the Black Stars’ six-game winning streak came to an end under head coach Chris Hughton.
The four-time African champions had only four shots on goal, all of which they missed, despite holding a 54% possession advantage. Three of these attempts were attempted in the second half, as Ghana was looking for an equalizer.
The Mexican goalkeeper was tested by the black stars on multiple occasions, but occasionally their execution fell short, as seen by Joseph Paintsil’s cutback in the first half.
After a goalless first half, PSV striker Hirving Lozano gave Mexico the lead in the 57th minute when he tucked the ball into the goal at Lawrence Ati-Zigi’s right post.
In the 72nd minute, the North American team added to their lead when Uriel Antuna of Dynamo Moscow scored the second goal after a superb through pass split Ghana’s defense.
Ghana have a difficult challenge ahead of them after suffering a twin blow that doomed them to defeat.
