The Despite Media Group and its CEO, Dr. Osei Kwame Despite, have received an apology from Stephen Ntim, the National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), regarding the October 7th assault on the UTV studios.
Recall that on October 7, 2023, on a Saturday, a group of people associated with the NPP broke into the station’s studios while United Showbiz was broadcasting live.
The group claimed that A Plus, one of the show’s regular panelists, was prejudiced towards the NPP and sought an apology.
Ghanaians were outraged by this episode, and numerous organizations, including the Ministry of Information and the Ghana Journalist Association, condemned it.
The Ghana Police Service reported that it has detained sixteen people who were connected to the incident, and the NPP subsequently distanced itself from it.
Speaking to UTV on October 11, following the invasion,Stephen restated the NPP’s assertions that it has no connection to the invasion.
Ntim said that the situation had never happened before in a video that 1Family Radio was able to view, and he sincerely apologized on behalf of the NPP.
“If something like this happens, it shouldn’t happen in the NPP. If you see how we have interacted with you since this institution came into the media space, this incident is terrible,’’ he said.
“NPP, what happened? We are not proud of it. We apologize on behalf of all the heads of our party, from the president, vice president, chief of staff, and chairman.’’
“I apologize on behalf of the police department. We apologize to Mr. Osei Kwame and hope that the relationship we have doesn’t deteriorate but rather grows,’’ he added.
