Stéphane Roudet, the Chief of Mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), has affirmed that Ghana’s economic recovery is doing better than anticipated.
He said this at a joint press conference attended by representatives from the Ghanaian Finance Ministry and the IMF on Friday, October 6, 2023, which was monitored by 1Family Radio.
The news conference follows recent talks with the IMF Mission over Ghana’s $3 billion external credit facility (ECF) with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
“What we are seeing in terms of growth dynamics is better than what we were anticipating. I think this is very good news,” he said.
“Inflation is coming down, and the international reserves of the central bank are going up, which is also very important to boost confidence.”
Mr. Roudet expressed his happiness that many indicators are gaining ground and displaying promising trends, adding that the economy is usually turning around.
“So, clearly, there is a turnaround, there is an improvement, and signs of macroeconomic stability are now emerging.”
He did, however, issue a warning to the authorities, telling them not to sit back and relax but to work to make things more productive.
