At the opening of a recently built artificial pitch in the neighborhood, some Teshie residents in Accra heckled Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, causing him to experience yet another embarrassing moment.
The plant, which was built by Bernard Okoe-Boye, a former member of parliament for Ledzokuku, in collaboration with the Ghana Gas business, was officially opened on September 30, 2023.
Dr. Bawumia, the event’s guest of honor, had a challenging entry because, as he and his government arrived at the event site, there were jeers in his direction which was sighted by 1Family radio.
A video of demonstrators yelling at President Nana Akuffo-Addo and his vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is making the rounds on social media.
The song “Nana Akuffo Addo, we are dying, but have you seen your bald head? We will slap on it” was one of the shouts.
The government sees the Astroturfs as one of many options to address the infrastructure problems that have bedeviled the sport industry.
The building of Astroturf has been led by the Ghana National Petroleum Commission and Ghana Gas Company.
In the elections of 2024, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia hopes to lead the newly formed Patriotic Party. Bawumia will need to defeat Kennedy Agyapony in the party primaries set for November 4, 2023, in order to accomplish that.
