Awulae Attibrikusu III, the paramount chief of the Lower Axim Traditional Area, has slammed the NPP administration for the way it has handled the fight against unlawful small-scale mining.
He asserts that the Akufo-Addo administration’s efforts to combat this problem are a farce because politicians exclusively fund roughly ninety percent of the galamsey in Ghana.
The paramount chief made this statement during the Grand Durbar of the 2023 Axim Kundum, which was covered by 1Family Radio.
He claimed that, if it had wanted to, the NPP government would have found a way to terminate this situation because it is privy to the solution to this predicament.
“When it comes to the issue of galamsey, I would always say without fear that the government is full of jokers. I would say this anywhere. Why do I say the government is full of jokers? As I am seated here, I don’t have any apparatus, and I don’t command the police or soldiers.’’
“The chamfans used for galamsey are imported; who controls the harbor? Is it not the government? So, if the government places an embargo on the import of chamfans, who is going to import them? Who am I to go and give an order that the importation of chamfers should be stopped?’’ he asks.
“That’s why I’m saying, and I would say it, that the government is a joker. They don’t know what they are talking about. It is only the government who can stop galamsey and not chiefs,’’ he said.
