Samini, a popular Ghanaian musician, believes that if he had attended a senior high school with sports facilities and policies, he would have become one of the country’s most accomplished athletes.
Samini believes that if he had attended a school that was an active participant in inter-school sporting competitions, his rising athletic career, which began in primary school, would have bloomed to a global level.
On Angel FM, Samini did not aim to minimize the impact of Dansoman-based St. Margareth Mary SHS on his life and career but rather to emphasize that the environment for bright sporting kids to develop their skills did not exist at the time.
The award-winning musician recalled sneaking off campus to attend inter-school competitions at EL Wak and Accra Academy.
Samini, who attended St. Margareth Mary High School, recently graduated from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA)
The sole reason Ghana had never heard of me as an athlete was because I attended a new high school at the time. We sneaked out of school for inter-co to get a feel for it. Wesley Grammar, Accra Academy, Ebenezer, and other schools used to participate, but we had to jump fences because nothing happened on our campus.
I was a runner in primary school. Those who know me could attest to the fact that I was a sprinter. Unfortunately, my school did not participate in such activities. Most of the sporting opportunities he mentioned were unavailable to me.
Samini also revealed his football talent, noting that he was primarily used in wing positions due to his speed.
Samini boasted that he is the leading striker on the Ghanaian musicians’ soccer team and has scored the most goals in a competitive match.
”I used to play football as well. My coach appreciated my speed, so he generally used me as a striker. I’ve also scored the most goals.
