By the end of this year’s September, construction on the halted PTC interchange in the Western Region metropolis of Takoradi, which has inconvenienced daily travelers, is expected to restart.
During a community engagement session organized by Dr. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, the member of parliament for Takoradi consistency, a worried resident of Amanful West asked a query that led to this beneficial development.
Residents frequently voiced their concerns about the interchange construction delay during the event which was monitored by 1Family radio.
The project’s suspension was the result of discussions and agreements with financiers and stakeholders, Mr. Mensah told them. He later affirmed that work would resume by the end of September.
The PTC interchange, designed with three tiers, was originally intended to be a 30-month project, aiming for completion in July of the same year.
The financing for the project is through the Master Project Support Agreement between Ghana and the Chinese government, with implementation by Sinohydro Corporation under a barter trade agreement.
However, the project encountered a suspension in January due to a misunderstanding arising from an announcement by the Finance Ministry regarding potential project reprioritization.
