Liverpool icon John Barnes has entreated Mohammed Kudus to stay with Ajax for a long period in order for him to learn his trade.
Although Mohammed Kudus has two more years until his contract with Ajax expires, he is currently on the lists of Liverpool and Manchester United.
In reaction to this, Barnes has advised the young talent not to make a move until he has fully unraveled his potential and is able to handle pressure.
“I advise every player to learn their trade and to be disciplined and humble. To stay at their club for a long period of time so that they can learn their trade,’’ he told JoySports in an interview monitored by 1Family Radio.
“However, football is now different; it has really changed. And we see this all the time, where a footballer is transferred to another club after one successful season,’’ he said.
John Barnes added that he occasionally regrets not signing with Manchester United but is grateful that he was able to become famous with Liverpool.
“I use myself as an example; when I played, you had to demonstrate a certain level of consistency over a period of time before you were transferred.’’
“I tell every player to master their craft because, when you are transferred, there will be a lot of strain on you, so unless you can demonstrate that you can handle the pressure or perform at a high level over a sustained period of time, rather than just five or six matches, I wouldn’t recommend a transfer,’’ Barnes added.
