The Alliance of Drivers has called on the government to scrap the reintroduction of road tolls otherwise they will put on hold all transport business.
The alliance in a statement released on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, questioned the government on the reason for the sudden reintroduction of road tolls and also the increased in the tolls.
In the statement sighted by 1Family Radio, the alliance urged the government to scrap the road tolls. The alliance explained that because of the dust and dirt on the roads, the traffic and the high cost of fuel due to the delay in traffic this will cause, the government should scrap it.
They furthered that considering the current economic hardship in the country, the government should reconsider his decision to reintroduce the road tolls.
The alliance threatened that if the government fails to scrap the reinstatement of the road tolls, they will force their members to stop working.
“If government fails to adhere to the above suggestions, we will urge our drivers and transport operators to put on hold all transport dealings,’’ the statement indicated.
According to the statement, this should be done properly through consultation with the involved stakeholders to prevent the negative impact it will have on Ghanaians.
