On Monday, January 22, 2024, the Black Stars’ downfall reached a new height as they gave up a two-goal lead to draw 2-all with Mozambique in their last Group B encounter of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Black Stars’ surrender to late goals from Mozambique caused much more heartache for Ghanaians, who had high hopes after the squad advanced and was very close to qualifying for the competition’s knockout stage.
Two Jordan Ayew penalties, one in each half, appeared to be helping the Black Stars advance to the round of 16. Before Reinildo Mandava’s header crushed Ghana’s hopes, however, Geny Catamo drew one back on minute 91 from the penalty spot.
Mozambique placed last in Group B, while Chris Hughton, the coach, was the target of hateful remarks on social media. Coach Chris Hughton’s poor game management has left the majority of Ghanaians furious.
