The University of Ghana’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, has overseen the free laptop distribution to a subset of the school’s students.
On Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at the University of Ghana, a number of delegates attended an event held at the Cedi Conference Center, where the distribution took place.
In a video obtained by 1Family Radio, the vice chancellor indicated that since the initiative’s launch, there have been three laptop distribution ceremonies for students in order to provide them with the required technological abilities.
“We thank the chair and members of the implementation committee. They took the concept, developed it, and ran with it, and I think this is the third distribution ceremony, if we discount the one we did exclusively for graduate students,’’ she said.
Vice Chancellor Nana Aba Appiah told Joynews a while back in October that the university’s plans to construct a computer assembly facility on its campus are already underway.
In order to improve teaching and learning and close the digital divide, the “One Student, One Laptop Initiative” aims to use creative mechanisms to provide university staff members with free or inexpensive laptops or handheld devices through partnerships with reputable information technology (IT) companies.
