President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has come under fire from Malik Basintale, the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) deputy national communications officer.
He claimed that from the moment he named Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, his vice president, as his preferred successor, President Akufo-Addo insulted the people of Ghana.
In an interview with TV3, which 1Family Radio monitored, Malik said that, given his shortcomings as the head of the Economic Management Team, it was imprudent of the president to name Dr. Bawumia as his successor.
“I don’t blame anybody, but if President Akufo-Addo had 1% respect for the people of this country, he wouldn’t have even presented Dr. Bawumia to us,’’ he noted.
He queried President Akufo-Addo’s priorities, saying again that if he had any respect for Ghana, he would put more effort into solving the country’s economic problems than supporting Bawumia’s presidential campaign.
Malik claimed the Vice President should not have been elected to the nation’s highest position because he has mishandled the economy.
“All the opportunities in this world were given to Dr. Bawumia; I watched him on their platform; he stood there and said he would do everything within his might and would make sure Dr. Bawumia was president.’’
“I looked at him and said, If you have any strength left in you, use it to fix the economy. We need your strength now to salvage the Ghanaian economy and not to make somebody president,’’ he added.
