It has barely been a month since the declining health of longtime Nollywood actor Mr. Ibu became public, and now another well-known figure from the same industry has made the decision to open up about his own struggle with a terrible illness.
Actor Amaechi Muonagor disclosed that he has been coping with the aftereffects of a stroke for the past seven months in a distressing video that 1Family Radio saw on Facebook.
He said that the stroke struck him as he was about to get into his car after finishing a scene on a movie shoot.
Since then, the actor has stated that he has endured a difficult recuperation process, spending months in a hospital’s confines in an attempt to restore his health.
“I am sick; this thing that is called a stroke caught up with me, and from there, they rushed me to the hospital. The first hospital they rushed me to was in Nnewi, where I spent some two months. And I was referred to the Teaching Hospital Nnewi, and here I am,’’ he said.
“In that set, I was with Emeka Ani, Patience Ozokwo, Rita Edochie, and Ebele Okaro; at the end of that moment, I was to enter my car when I was struck with this problem, and since then, it’s getting worse.’’
“Right now, I cannot move; I can’t walk alone. All my left half is paralyzed, so it’s a problem for me,’’ he added.
The actor added that despite his unyielding fortitude, his health continues to deteriorate and has remained in a serious condition. He is currently fighting a difficult struggle with the effects of the stroke.
“For example, my left hand is not movable, and the leg sometimes swells, and I find it difficult to even move it. So that is the problem I’m having. I need assistance because ever since then I’ve been spending money, paying for hospital beds, and paying for drugs.’’
Ameachi Muonagor further made a financial appeal to his supporters, industry peers, and well-wishers.
“I need help; anybody that is touched is really my fan. This is the time. I’ve been in the hospital where I am now for three months. I thought it’d be a week or a few days before I went back, but it was prolonged. So I didn’t make it known to people. This is why I am calling all my friends, both in Nollywood and outside, to help me,’’ he added.
