The fourth international friendly between the two teams will take place in the United States, with the Black Stars of Ghana looking to win their first-ever match against Mexico.
Mexico has played Ghana three times, and in each match, the North American nation prevailed.
Out of their three meetings, two took place in the United States and the third in England.
The Black Stars played Mexico for the first time in a friendly pre-World Cup match in Texas in 2006. Guillermo Franco scored the lone goal for the Mexicans in their 1-0 victory over Ghana.
Two years later, at the Craven Cottage, home of English Premier League team Fulham, the two nations rekindled their battle in another international friendly.
Michael Essien gave Ghana the lead in the 55th minute, but El Tri rallied late in the game, and Carlos Salcido and Pavel Pardo gave Mexico the win.
In their most recent encounter, which took place in Houston in 2017, Elías Hernández’s lone goal helped the Mexicans win.
Both teams will be playing practice matches today before Ghana starts its 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign next month and Mexico plays COPA America qualifying.
Chris Hughton, the coach of Ghana, hopes to use the game to address some of the team’s shortcomings, like not scoring goals early in the match.
Speaking in a pre-match interview monitored by 1Family Radio, Chris noted, “There are areas of our games that we can improve; there is no doubt about that.’’
“Perhaps scoring goals early enough in games to take pressure off ourselves is one area we are seriously working on,’’ he noted.
