The presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong, has outlined a few possible reasons as to why Alan Kyerematen might have lost the party’s super delegate election.
Ken Agyapong said during an interview on Neat FM, which was monitored by 1Family Radio, that Alan’s decision to keep a low-key status within the NPP party had had an adverse effect on his campaign.
He claimed that throughout the years Kyerematen opted to stay passive and withdraw from active politics, a new generation had arisen, and many of these young people were now qualified to cast their votes, but because of his inactivity, they did not know him.
“Alan and I were engaging in a fair campaign, but the others were on the other side and using money to intimidate people,’’ he said.
“They were going to win because of their intimidation tactics, wealth, and power, but Alan and I were going to win because of our popularity among the general public.’’
He continued, “Alan has been a part of the system for some time, but there was a time when it seemed like he just kept quiet. If you remember back to when Kufuor was in charge, if a child was 10 years old, he or she is now 25 years old and doesn’t know about Alan at the time. The bulk of children who were little at the time are now adults who can cast a ballot.’’
Also explained by Ken was the possibility that Alan’s failure to run for a member of parliament was one of his major blunders.
“However, I have constantly served in Parliament, and I think that honorable Alan made the mistake of not being pushed to become a Parliamentarian. Many of them don’t know Alan since he retreated from society and became silent over the years. In both good and terrible times, my consistency on radio and television has helped me gain popularity,’’ he added.
