Member of Parliament for Bawku Central on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahama Ayariga, has taken a swipe at a comment made by the Governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Ernest Addison.
Following his refusal to meet the protesters of the #OccupBoG protest, Dr. Ernest Addison reprimanded the NDC opposition MPs for their action, calling it superfluous.
“The Minority in Parliament has many channels to channel their grievances in civilized societies, not through demonstrations in the streets as hooligans,’’ Dr. Addison said in an interview with the Central Bank.
In reaction, Mr. Ayariga asserted that the Minority Caucus would assuredly respond to the BoG governor for his use of language.
Having called us hooligans, he (Addison) will get a response from hooligans,’’ Ayariga stated in a radio interview with Citi FM, monitored by 1Family Radio.
“I, Mahama Ayariga, am saying that he will see what hooligans do. I don’t know what my colleagues will think, but when we meet, we will discuss and let you know,’’ he added.
“I did not for once imagine that the central bank governor would be so frustrated as to respond that way: to call your members of parliament, hooligans, people who have written to the police to demonstrate; the police raised issues; we went to court; they postponed the demonstration two times; we went to court; we responded.”
He added, “We had meetings with the police; we came to a clear understanding of the route; and anybody who monitored the protest march saw that it was one of the most peaceful, orderly, and well organized.”
“We will continue to protest, we will continue to demand, and he has labeled us as hooligans. Well, he will see. We have tried to be as civil as possible and as descent as possible,’’ he stated.
