As president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has been re-elected.
The current president, Kurt Okraku, received an overwhelming 117 votes out of 119 in order to be elected for a second term.
In October 2019, Kurt Okraku won the GFA presidency by defeating George Afriyie which was followed by 1Famil radio. He succeeded Kwesi Nyantakyi, whose lengthy career was tarnished by suspicions of corruption that journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas uncovered in an investigative report.
With only two delegates voting against Okraku’s reelection, he received the majority of the yes votes.
The newly elected GFA government will be in office for four years, ending in 2027.
The Congress will also see the election of the GFA’s executive for the subsequent four years. Five representatives from the Ghana Premier League (GPL) and three from the Division One League (DOL) will be chosen by delegates to serve on the Executive Council.
Candidates for the DOL positions include Mark Addo, Samuel Addo Anim Eugene Nobel Nii Amon Noel, Gideon Fosu,, and Alexander Ababi.
The ceremony in Tamale is expected to be seen by FIFA observers, including Mr. Ahmed Harraz, a representative of FIFA Member Associations Africa, and Gelson Fernanders, Director of Member Associations for Africa.
