The recent decision of a former party veteran, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, to leave the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been referred to as “unfortunate” by the party’s leadership.
On Monday, September 25, 2023, Alan Kyerematen made a formal announcement that he had resigned from the NPP in order to run as an independent in the elections of 2024 under his new banner, “Movement for Change.”
Since Kyerematen has been a devoted supporter of the NPP for many years, his resignation has shocked the political establishment.
In a press statement sighted by 1Family Radio, the party indicated that it would address Alan’s resignation on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at 14:00 p.m.
“The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken notice of the unfortunate decision of Mr. Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, a long-standing member of the party, to forfeit his membership and contest as an independent presidential candidate in the 2024 general elections.’’
“The Party leadership is by this medium urging the rank and file of our great Party to remain calm and await an official address by the Party to Mr. Kyerematen’s resignation at 14:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at the Party’s headquarters.’’
“May God bless our homeland, Ghana, and make the New Patriotic Party great and strong,’’ the statement noted.
