Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, the chairman of the Media Coalition Against Galamsey, suggested to President Akufo-Addo that he follow the lead of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Ashanti Kingdom’s paramount chief.
The Asantehene, within the space of four months, has destooled five subchiefs due to their involvement in delinquency and illegal acts such as galamsey.
The recent subchief to be ousted by Otumfuo is Nana Kwaku Duah, the Aboutemhene.
In response to this, Dr. Kenneth has asked Akufo-Addo to also expel his government officials involved in the galamsey.
“This is what we expect of leadership, and I completely agree with Otumfuo,’’ he noted in an interview monitored by 1Family Radio.
“If you’re a chief and you have galamsey happening in your community, you are either complicit and are deeply involved in it or you are incompetent, and, in both cases, you are not worthy of being the chief or leader of the people.’’
“And I think this is what the Asantehene is talking about, and so it is the same action we require of the president,’’ he added.
