The eagerly awaited Chale Wote Street Art Festival will begin in Accra on Monday, August 21, 2023, bringing together aesthetic, elegance, fashion, and artistic works of art in a single spot.
The week-long festival, which kicks off with an all-white parade on Monday evening, is anticipated to be another spectacular one by participants.
All age groups will participate in the “remembrance walk” that will run from the Christiansburg Castle through the Osu municipality and a few key streets.
Other events planned include art exhibits, local movie screenings, the theatrical staging of “Na Wo Se S3n,” a live performance by some of Ghana’s best musicians, and a range of thought-provoking engagements. On Sunday, everything will come to a head at Black Stars Square.
The decision to move this year’s event to Osu and the Black Stars Square was made because organizers anticipate a large attendance, much as in previous years.
Leading Ghanaian and international artists will present collections of their works that illustrate the Gold Coast’s lengthy history of colonial incursions and resistance, as well as pieces that were influenced by the 1835 uprising of enslaved Afro-Brazilians.
Visitors can learn intriguing tales about the Osu town while touring historical places and structures while artists showcase their creativity.
Chale Wote is characterized as “an exploration of the full spectrum of all genres of fine and performing art, giving a sunrise opportunity for less well-known art and artists” in addition to being an art and music festival.
