Alhaji Salifu Mimina Osman, the former Deputy National Security Coordinator under the former John Mahama administration, has been pardoned by President Nana Akufo-Addo.
This is in response to a plea that Kpembewura Haruna Dari Bismark Banbange Ndefoso I, the Paramount Chief of the Kpembe Traditional Area, filed with the Office of the President.
Alhaji Mimina Osman merits a presidential pardon due to poor health and good behavior, claims the letter dated Wednesday, July 26.
The letter, which was sighted by 1Family Radio, was signed by the secretary to the president and directed to the Minister of Interior, Ambrosse Dery.
“I am directed by the President of the Republic to inform you that pursuant to a petition dated July 19, 2021, from the Paramount Chief of Kpembi Traditional Area, Kpembewura Haruna Dari Bismark Banbange Ndefoso I, for a presidential pardon and release of Alhaji Salifu Mimina Osman on grounds of ill-health and good behavior,
“And in consultation with the Council of State, the President has exercised the prerogative of mercy in favor of Alhaji Salifu Mimina Osman and has granted him a pardon, in accordance with Article 72(1)(a) of the Constitution. Kindly take the necessary steps to give effect to the presidential pardon immediately,” the letter said.
Alhaji Mimina Osman was one of three people who were convicted of 14 various crimes, including causing the state financial harm and violating the Public Procurement Act when buying surveillance equipment for the National Security Council Secretariat.
Alhaji Mimina Osman, a son of Kpembe, received a five-year prison sentence in 2020, along with Eugene Baffoe-Bonnie and William Tetteh-Tevie, two other board members of the National Communications Authority (NCA).
The Accra High Court sentenced the three to a combined 16 years in prison with hard labor.
