Carl Tuffuor, a Ghanaian veteran sports journalist, has stated that it is extremely disdainful of the authorities to honor the great boxer Azumah Nelson by naming the dilapidated Kaneshie Sports Complex after his name.
He claimed that the Kaneshie Sports Complex’s current state doesn’t reflect the grandeur of Azumah Nelson and is not worthy of the honor of bearing his name.
Speaking in an interview on GTV Sports, monitored by 1Family Radio, Carl noted that Azumah Nelson, whose exceptional aptitude and abilities have placed Ghana on a pedestal in the world of boxing, deserves a far better edifice than this.
“Even his opponents to date have massive respect for him. With all due respect, those who oversee this country don’t show him that level of respect.’’
“It is absolutely rubbish to name a funny edifice after the greatest sportsperson in this country,’’ he asserted.
“I call it the Kaneshie Complex; I’m never going to call this the Azumah Nelson Complex. It doesn’t befit the champion that we had that kept all of us awake to make us happy.’’
“The best thing to do is to name the Legon Stadium after Azumah Nelson because that will be an appropriate edifice for him,’’ he said.
